What Do I Need to Know?

How long do epoxy floors last? When epoxy floors are professionally done, they can last around 20 to 30 years depending on factors such as the existing condition of the concrete below as well as the levels of foot traffic it will endure. The heavier the traffic, which tends to occur more in commercial and industrial settings, the more your epoxy floor will eventually wear.

What are the benefits of having an epoxy floor? The benefits are very significant when it comes to having a professional come and epoxy your floors. Lets start with the most obvious, the look! Price Epoxy provides a totally custom experience when it comes to the appearance of your floors. From the color of the base coat to the color of the flakes, it is up to you the client to decide what combination suits your needs the best! Looking into the properties of epoxy, it is a hard resin mixture that when applied and fully settled, creates a strong bond to your concrete floor making it waterproof, scratch, stain and fire resistant! Another great benefit of choosing to have your epoxy floors done is that they will last you a very long time. Depending on the amount of foot traffic in the area, expect to get around 20-30 years out of your epoxy floor.

What are the disadvantages of epoxy? As much as we hate to say it, nothing is ever perfect. When trying to install an epoxy floor yourself, while mixing the wet material together, you will be met with a pretty foul smell that can make it difficult to breath. And no, the smell is not permanent. Once the epoxy has had its appropriate time to cure and dry, the original smell will be diminished and will no longer be an issue. Another disadvantage to having your epoxy floors is that they are very slippery when wet. Whenever any water or liquid gets onto the material, it wont absorb like it would concrete or any other subfloor and just sit there. That is why it is important to immediately clean up any messes that may occur to help keep your floors safe to walk on. A solution to this issue is to add an anti-slip additive to your top coat of epoxy. This will give your epoxy a sand paper like texture and make it non slip. The consequence to this additive though is that it makes it harder to sweep and clean since the surface is no longer smooth.
